Raon Vega review from Carrypad

Raon_vegaSteve spent some quality time with the Raon Vega handheld and posted an extremely detailed review of this mini computer. I was very skeptical about this device for a number of reasons:

  • The base Vega runs XP Home on only 256 MB of RAM
  • It’s powered by the AMD LX800 chipset running at 500 MHz
  • Lack of integrated Bluetooth and WiFi

Turns out that the device is very usable in a certain context, even with the limitations noted above. In fact, the first two "limitations" didn’t seem to limit Steve’s use of the device at all, however, he too would like to see integrated connectivity options. I mentioned the "certain context" of device usage. While the device is very usable for some tasks, it’s less of a "desktop replacement" than the current batch of UMPCs; then again, those devices are conceptually meant as companion devices as well.

This is a great review; nice job Steve!
