The Economic Times has an update on Virgin Comics:
– Reliance is developing mobile games based on Devi, Snakewoman, Ramayana 3392 AD and Sadhu; out within two moths.
– Apart from the MMPORG online game, a game for Playstation is also in the offing. (not Xbox? Who knows then PS3 will actually be released)
– John Woo and Guy Ritchie (ET calls them “actors”) will direct theatrical versions of the books.
– Snakewoman, Devi and Sadhu comics are going to be launched in India soon, and 18 titles are planned.
Virgin Comics president (India) Suresh Seetharaman also told ET that their plan is to “first develop the characters in a comic book, which is both low cost and is also the best form of expression with both visuals and words.” They then use it to develop an animation series and/or a theatrical release.
That’s what has been done in the past by others, with characters like Superman, Spiderman, The Hulk, and even the X-Men series. Now, monetization models have increased with gaming, and multiple and global modes of distribution – online and on the mobile.
