Hong Kong operator PCCW has announced plans to trial DVB-H for six months…this is in addition to the 3G TV effort using CMB it is running. Meanwhile, the Chinese government is aiming for a DMB service by mid-2007.
“The PCCW trial will run from September to March 2007 within Hong Kong’s Quarry Bay district and will include Motorola DVB-H enabled mobile devices, network solutions and interactive services platform.”
Apparently, “although consumers believe mobile TV is an exciting prospect, they are not believed to be convinced of its usability”. Which means a campaign showing that mobile TV is easy to use should drive adoption rapidly…assuming the service is easy to use.
