At CTIA, I had a short chat with Clint Stinchcomb, executive VP, HDTV and New Media, at Discovery Communications, on its mobile and other new media efforts, and covered a wide range. He is bullish on mobile video, and considering Discovery is all about video, it makes sense. The company is on MobiTV and short-form video in about 10 countries on various carriers.
He said that all the issues you see in mobile video, both on front end and back end, will be solved. It will evolve into a cable model. “We have a big opportunity in the travel space for mobile video,” he said. He also said that 30 second pre-roll, both online and on mobile, “is horrible”.
