Bangladesh Builds FTTH System

For a country with just over a million fixed line phones and three million mobile phones, Bangladesh is making a surprising, and welcome leap to the FTTP world. Link 3 Technologies, a local data connectivity provider is going to build a FTTH network in the capital city of Dhaka, according to Wave7 Optics which is providing the gear for the network. Link3 plans to roll out the data only network by end of this year, but will go triple play sometime in 2007. The reason Link3 is able to roll out the network with such speed is because the company currently owns its own fiber optic backbone. I guess the lack of copper-based phone system is turning out to be a good thing for the residents of Dhaka.
