Communacopia XV: Bewkes: AOL’s Growth Faster; No Piecemeal Time Inc Sale

At the same conference, Time Warner Jeffrey Bewkes, Time Warner’s COO, told investors that its AOL open-web strategy had attracted new users beyond those who were once paying customers of the online service. Some 40 percent of new users were not former subscribers, Bewkes said. He also said advertising sales at AOL were “very robust,” without elaborating.
AdAge: Bewkes quashed some rumors about Time Inc: he didn’t rule out selling Time Inc. — or any Time Warner division — but did say this morning that the publishing unit’s scale was an asset: “We’re not going to start selling off magazines piecemeal”.
Also, he expects to see AOL complete a transformation into a “Web 2.0 company” next year too.
