This pic from The Register is either a really big hand or a relatively small 32 GB NAND flash disk drive. Since we already read the article, we won’t keep you guessing: it’s a flash drive and it’s from TDK. Apparently, TDK has handed out samples to storage companies so the next step would likely be some actual products around the low-powered storage unit that has no moving parts. TDK says the controller will support transfer speeds of up to 33.3 MBps while saving power over standard HDD storage. Looks like Samsung won’t be the only game in town, which is good news for consumers. Additional companies entering the flash drive storage market should help prices drop quicker. Hey TDK, we’re all for samples here…..really, it’s no problem.
