@CTIA: Round-up Of CTIA Round-ups

There’s not much news around today, but there’s quite a number of CTIA pieces…
IT Business Net focused a lot on AOL Mobile, which is busy putting its search on mobile phones and encouraging standardized mobile OS’s, like Linux. “The common theme for all: how to improve what consumers see on their cell phone screens.”
Digital Pro Sound has an AP article about Hollywood and mobile, and things related to that including ads and IP rights. There’s an interesting quote from Louis Gump, the Weather Channel’s vice president of mobile. “Before, basically it was an expense line item for us, and every month I had to roll my eyes and sign the bills,” he said. “And now what we have is significant revenue that is coming in we are seeing, month over month, double-digit increases in that revenue, and the inventory is very strong.”
RCR Wireless has a piece on the Hollywood in the Mobile World, which explores the differences the mobile industry and Hollywood are discovering as they attempt to work together. “There are compensation issues, there are guild issues, there are issues with credit. At the moment, it’s sort of at an impasse,” said Ronald D. Moore, executive producer of “Battlestar Galactica.” “It’s a very big, fat gray area.”
GigaOm looks at the discussions around mobile advertising at CTIA (and there were a lot of them…)
–Analyst Chetan Sharma also has a round up of CTIA, Mecca and MES…covering a smorgasbord of topics from ads to 4G to enterprise to TV to ecosystem friction. He starts off with some figures: “Amongst the western nations, US has just over 5% 3G penetration with UK leading the way at 11.4%. Spain and France are at 8.9% and 7.9% respectively. In the US, Verizon is ahead with over 17% 3G subscriber penetration followed by Sprint at 6%.”
