How much money has publishing software maker Adobe Systems plonked in India ever since it set up shop in the country in 1997. It’s $200 million, up from a modest $3 million when they set out, says Naresh Gupta, senior vice-president, print and classic publishing solutions business unit, and managing director, India R&D, Adobe India, in an interview to Business Standard. Adobe India’s research centre has contributed seeral products like Pagemaker 7.0 (in 2001), followed by Acrobat Reader (for handheld devices), and others like Frame Maker, RoboHelp, PostScript, Acrobat Reader on Linux, Photoshop Album and Premiere Elements (versions 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0) – all developed indigenously.
Adobe has had a decent run in India. It employs 850 people in India currently which will swell to 1,000 by year end.
