Verizon Gets Content Search

When I asked the question “why do carriers only have browsing options on their portals, why not a search box?” I never really got a satisfactory answer. I guess Verizon has one now (powered by Medio Systems)…the carrier has launched Get It Now Search, which is an app that allows its customers to to “quickly search across downloadable content available from VZW Games, VZW Tones and VZW Pix straight from their mobile phones. With Get It Now Search, customers can search by artist name, song title, game or application name to easily find the content they want”. Then they can buy it, get recommendations and so on. It’s also customized for the phone.
The obvious part of this is that it’s easier for consumers to find content, something which it constantly trotted out as a main inhibitor of the mobile content market (and for good reaosn). It also does something else — it effectively allows all the companies with content on Verizon’s portal to market that content to the consumer. Whereas before companies could only say “It’s on Vcast!” with the hopeful grin of someone who knows full well the article in question is buried so deep in the deck the customer will never find it now they can put something up with a distinctive name knowing the customer can easily search for that name. Far better than “go to the portal and scroll down to games and click on that then scroll down to action games and click on that then scroll down…”
