Rediff.com: Indian internet media is coming of age. The Indian government has decided to give accreditation to web journalists in India. The Press Information Bureau accreditation will provide free access to journalists to the ministries, and also to cover important government events attended by the heads of government, prime minister, and president.
However, there are riders: For a web site to be considered for accreditation, at least one-third of its content must consist of news and it should be updated at least six times a day. The company has to have been in existence for over a year, and must have at least 10,000 page views a day. Its domain name should be registered for at least five years from the date of application, and its annual sales should not be less than Rs 2.5 crore ($0.55 million). Rediff is one of the prime movers behind this decision, the article claims, as they lobbied hard with the government. Way to go.
