We’d reported yesterday on Airtel launching a ‘Cricket Subscription Pack’ in Delhi. Reliance Communications has launched its own version for the same India-West Indies-Australia series, and this time on a nationwide basis.
The pack offers only SMS alerts every 10 overs, or at important junctures, but it also costs less at Rs. 49. Airtel’s pack is priced at Rs.99, but has more features. Customers have to dial 1234 and say ‘scores’ for subscription. Additional features on Reliance – comments, detailed scorecard, team list etc – are available on dialing 1234, but at Rs. 6 per minute. Scores are also available on Reliance’s Mobile World portal.
Right. So how do they compare? Reliance’s offering is pan-India and hence available to more users, while Airtel’s is restricted to Delhi. Airtel can expand this to an all-India offering during the Champions trophy, where the live commentary would weigh in its favour, albeit at Rs.50 more. Reliance could also launch a commentary feature by then. The off-the-pitch matches over Cricket have only just begun…
