Agencyfaqs.com: UK newspaper The Independent will be printed in India. Uttar Pradesh-based Jagran Prakashan Ltd (JPL), the publishers of the largest circulated Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, will publish the facsimile version of the The Independent from Delhi. The date of launch will be finalised after it gets approval from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Independent News & Media Plc (INM), the owners of the Irish newspaper, has about 20 per cent stake in Jagran.
In July 2005, the government had effected changes in the print media guidelines which sought to facilitate greater foreign presence in print media through printing of facsimile editions of foreign newspapers and periodicals, and also enhancement of the syndication limits in Indian newspapers. It’s likely more and more foreign newspapers will see light of day in India through facsimile edition.
