Dog-Owner Focused Social Network Dogster Gets $1 Million Funnding

The popular dog-owners focused social network Dogster.com (and its sister site Catster.com) has closed a $1 million first round funding, from a syndicate of angel investors. The lead investor of this round, Michael Parekh, will join its board.
And when they say syndicate, it really is one: includes Joshua Schacter – del.icio.us./Yahoo, Adam Beguelin – Truveo/AOL, Michael Tanne – Wink, Jim Young – hotornot, Mike Jones – Userplane/AOL, George Sarlo – Walden Funds, Frank Caufield – Darwin VC, Aydin Senkut – Felicis Ventures, Robert Simon – Alta Partners, Brad Feld – Mobius Ventures and Jeff Clavier – SoftTech VC.
Dogster launched in January of 2004 and Catster launched in August of 2004. The company says it has quarter of a million members from over 150 countries.
News.com: The company makes its money from pet-related ads served to site visitors, and is just one of a growing number of popular pet-related sites such as Cute Overload, Cats in Sinks and many others. But Dogster may well be the first of these outfits to attract venture funding, says the story. I bet CNET will buy it out soon…food, moms and dog owners go well togethers.
