@ CTIA: The Day One Buzz

Day one at CTIA, was slower than usual, as it was the enterprise day. Tomorrow will be the mobile entertainment day, and the keynotes reflect that: Peter Chernin, President & COO of News Corp is speaking and I have heard that he’ll announce some new things (besides talking about the Jamba deal).
— The talk of the day was the News Corp-Jamba deal. And the biggest question everyone had: why just 51 %, why not full 100 %. Our exec editor Staci Kramer posed that question to Stratton Sclavos, CEO of VeriSign and Lucy Hood, president of Fox Mobile Entertainment, but didn’t get a clear answer.
— The RealNetworks-WiderThan deal overshadowed the second half of the day. Some said RNWK overpaid, most didn’t understand this was purely a backend deal…Real is not getting into ringbacks, and Rhapsody music service will gain from the deal, but only peripherally.
— The mini conferences within CTIA…my question: why bother? The day one Mecca was enough. How many times can you say mobile advertising etc?
— I heard about this mobile gaming firm, which rebranded earlier this year after a merger, about the be bought, but couldn’t nail down other details.
