TVGuide.com Redesign Rolls Out Today; Emphasis On Info, Community

The newest version of TVGuide.com, one of the most complicated entertainment news/info sites around, is scheduled to go live early this morning with more personalization, expanded broadband, more community options … you know the drill. TVGuide.com recently added dozens of blogs but the previous design did little to take advantage. The revamp by frog design includes more celebrity blogs and the chance for users to start their own blogs. Other community features include forums and discussion groups.
— The new design provides more advertising opportunities — home page takeovers, pre-roll “contextual” video and an additional revenue stream by adding sales of DVDs and movie tickets (Fandango).
— In addition to selling movie tix, TVG is expanding its movie coverage.
— Changes include a new media player and “expanded editorial coverage of third-party online content.”
— The database is designed to tap more than 50 years of archives complemented by constant updates. 10,000 TV shows, 40,000 movies, 131,000 celeb bios.
Rafat adds: Also, the company announced a deal with Tivo, to offer TiVo’s online scheduling technology on its new site, starting early next year. The companies also expanded an existing license agreement pertaining to Gemstar-TV Guide technology relating to television service providers. Gemstar also said it had named Bob Shallow as VP and GM of its mobile entertainment group, a new position. Shallow worked most recently at Nokia Corp.
