This is a sequel to the trend of places of religious worship going digital in India. The nine-day ‘Brahmotsavam’ at the Tirumala temple in Tirupati, beginning on September 25, would be made available live on the internet, reports The Hindu. There will be live “web-casting” of the sacred processions of the Lord Venkateswara daily in the morning and night as part of the yearly festival.
Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple has pioneered digitalisation. Its website allows darshan via live webcast, allows online booking of pujas, and delivers prasad both in and outside India. The online darshan facility gets around 4 million hits a month at Siddhivinayak. Ganpati mandals in Mumbai had also tied up with websites for live webcasts of aarti’s.
