BSkyB Stops Film Downloads After MSFT DRM Is Hacked

We’ve written a bit about Microsoft DRM hack FreeUse4WM. Turns out BSkyB stopped broadband film downloads Aug. 31 because of the hack, which Microsoft is working hard to crack. (At least one fix already has been hacked.) Sports clips on Sky by broadband also were vulnerable, according to Reuters. No estimate for the service’s return.
Out of all this we get some insight about the service, free to premium subs: some 250,000 of BSkyB’s payTV subs have downloaded the app that lets them watch video online. About 1 million clips have been downloaded. (Repeat after me: downloads do not equal views.)
