We may have to make a list of shows that aren’t premiering online, quite a twist from years past. New CBS show “Jericho” (one of the shows being promoted by Bluetooth in Grand Central Station) and NBC’s “Heroes” will be shown first on Yahoo; starting Sept. 13 and Sept. 25 respectively.
Meanwhile, over at Nickelodeon, a show premiering Sept. 22 actually had its start on broadband site TurboNick, part of an online incubator strategy. “Mr. Meaty” — it sounds like something Mr. Bill would star in on SNL — launched on broadband June 15 and has drawn more than 2.3 million visitors, according to Mediaweek. One video was streamed more than 400,000 times in August. (Mediaweek says “streamed by more than 400,000 kids” but I’m not sure how anyone would know that for sure given the inability to tell how many streams are viewed actually or who is doing the viewing.) The online success led Nick to move up the on-air premiere from next year to this month. Steve Youngwood, EVP-digital media, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group: Mr. Meaty “is one of the most successful signs of the direction we are going with TurboNick.”
