Some of the anti-3G sentiment from the presentations during the day spilled over into the panel discussion in the evening session of the Mobile India Forum 2006 conference.
Rajat Mukarji, Director (Corporate Communications) of Idea cellular expressed the view that operators would be better off asking for more spectrum for regular GSM operations, instead of incurring heavy costs for setting up 3G networks; India will reach 250mn subscribers by the end of 2007, and with the current spectrum availability, cellular services in metro cities will start breaking down.
