Watching Katie Couric’s Debut Online — Not

This was going to be a post about how the overnight ratings numbers for Katie Couric’s CBS Evening News debut won’t be close to complete since they won’t include online stats for the first live simulcast of U.S. broadcast network news. (People are actually betting on the audience number so it seemed like a point worth making.) My attention has been diverted, though, by the problems I ran into trying to watch the live simulcast on four different set-ups. I never got any of them to work. On the PCs, when I finally got the video module to open, log-in info was required. Then it slipped into a black loading screen. IE on a high-end desktop: still loading. Firefox on a laptop: loading, loading, crash. Nokia 770 Tablet: missing plug-in, I think. Cingular 8125: the CBS news site wouldn’t let me get to video on Windows Mobile 5/IE. For CBS News’ sake, I hope I was the only one who hit the wall instead of the play button. If you had different results — or, worse luck, the same — please share in the comments.
Update: Looks like some other folks had similar problems. I expected better — I was spoiled by the very smooth March Madness On Demand.
