The first CTIA story (apart from our MocoMixer)…A new security standard for mobile phones is set to be unveiled at CTIA on the 13th of September, assuming some “remaining minor details” can be worked out. The idea is to store protected information in a secure area of the handset dubbed the Mobile Terminal Module (MTM), similar ot the Trusted Platform Module in PCs. This is intended to make it more difficult for data thieves and mobile virus writers, and eventually could improve the security of mobile wallets.
“Called the Mobile Security Specification, it’s described as the basis for a new generation of secure phones and mobile devices that will be harder to tamper with and more secure. The standards are backed by companies such as Nokia, Samsung Electronics, and France Telecom.”
