Samsung’s SGH-zx20 HSDPA phone available on Cingular’s network

samsung_sgh.jpgSamsung’s SGH-zx20 is now available for Cingular customers…and you care because? It’s the first phone to support HSDPA, that’s why! It’s not the first (thanks John!), but it’s still plenty fast! Granted, HSDPA service isn’t as ubiquitous as other 3G networks just yet, but Cingular is starting to pick up steam with service in approximately 50 to 60 metro areas; you can view the rollout progress directly on Cingular’s coverage maps for BroadbandConnect. If your SGH-zx20 falls out of HSDPA range, it will roll back to EDGE service, if available.

Aside from download bursts up to 1.8 Mbps, the new Samsung has the standard array of phone features: Bluetooth, 1.3 Megapixel camera, microSD slot, media player functions and more. At $99.99 with a contract and rebate, I’d expect to see this be a big seller in the short term.
