Earnings: UK’s Johnston Press Print Ad Revenues Down, Digital Revenues Up

UK regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press reported a 9.2 percent slump in print advertising revenues for the first half of this year, though digital ad revenues were up 13.4 percent from $7.9 to $9.1 million.
The group, which bought regional title The Scotsman in January, reported half-year profits down 2.9 percent despite a revenue increase of 18 percent to $594.6 million. Digital publishing performed well with double digit revenue growth and unique users up 65 percent – but digital still represented only 2.3 percent of Johnston’s revenues from the period. Release
Reuters, via Scotsman.com: Finance director Stuart Paterson agreed with analysts’ predicted full-year pretax profit of $272 million and also said Johnston may consider acquisitions to help grow digital revenues. “We’re working hard to make sure we’re getting our share of the advertising dollars that are going online,” he said.
