The Canadian Football League has teamed up with Setanta Mobile to trial a “fan-centric, ad sponsored downloadable video program in the UK market”. According to the press release: “The premise of the trial – being conducted with a sizable and representative cross-section of the mobile-using UK population – is to provide subsidized mobile video in return for inclusion of advertising in content. The advertisements are highly relevant and targeted 10-second spots inserted before and following the actual content. Advertising content for the trial is being “provided” by top global brands with a presence in the UK market.” I’m not sure why this is being trialed in the UK rather than Canada, it may have something to do with licensing rights. The two companies have already launched some mobile content in the US.
