Microsoft has announced the launch of the Xbox India website, which has many more details than their previous India page. It lists quite a few games, and also has streaming video previews.
The new site is much like the US Xbox site, except that there isn’t a link for Xbox Live yet; Xbox Live and the Community page will probably be launched after the Xbox is launched in India in September.
Let’s compare the pricing with the international prices: Xbox 360 is at ERP of Rs. 23,990, while Xbox 360 Core is at an ERP of Rs. 19,990. At BestBuy, in the US, the Xbox 360 is priced at $399.99 (around Rs.18,800) and the Xbox 360 Core is for $299.99(around Rs. 14100). Duties in India make a big difference.
Also take into account the fact that in the US, one can get an international insurance for the Xbox 360 for $50 premium. This is over and above the warranty that Microsoft gives. I know someone in Delhi whose adapter blew up when he tried an Xbox he’d bought in New York. He got his $399.99 back because of the international insurance. I wonder whether/how the Xbox has been adapted for Indian conditions, and whether there are plans to offer insurance for gaming consoles here as well.
Update: Microsoft India has clarified that the Xbox 360 has been customised for Indian conditions
