Top UK Political Blogs Form Ad Network

Blog ad networks are starting to catch on in the UK, where the seven biggest political blogs are collaborating on a joint advertising venture called MessageSpace. The service offers just a basic 468×60 pixel banner ad but is being pitched as a way for advertisers to reach key opinion makers; the group of sites, which includes Labourhome, Guido Fawkes, Political Betting and Recess Monkey, have a joint 1.5 million unique users each month. MessageSpace is run by Alex Hilton of Recess Monkey. “Between us there is definitely a market,” he told MediaGuardian. “Political blogs are very popular and influential.” Research released last week by Hitwise found that four of the UK’s top ten most popular independent blogs are about politics. Of those, Guido Fawkes had the largest share of visits with 12.2 percent.
