This post includes a correction for the new name of SEG; it is Starz Entertainment. Liberty Media subsidiaries Starz Entertainment Group and newly acquired IDT Entertainment have been combined to form Starz, LLC, an integrated production and multi-platform distribution company. (The description includes the requisite “however and wherever they want to watch” mantra.) IDT becomes Starz Media while SEG become Starz Entertainment Media. Robert Clasen, who was president and CEO of SEG, is now chairman and CEO of both companies and the umbrella Starz. Clasen touted the multi-platform potential with a structure that will prevent Starz from being wholly reliant on deals with other companies: “We can tailor our programming to specific needs or develop programming that works on multiple platforms. In the modern media world creativity will be the key to success, and creativity will be the hallmark of our company.” He also served notice that Starz will be tinkering with release windows: “This combination will also permit us to experiment with different release windows depending on which release sequence offers the best economic value.” Starz Entertainment includes Vongo, the subscription video service. More details in the release.
— William D. Myers moves into the new position of president and COO, Starz Entertainment.
