The Product Manager News, Wireless, manages and develops wireless consumer products for news (e.g., wireless alerts, mobile handset applications, WAP sites, online integration etc.).
An adept and creative entrepreneur, s/he grows the wireless leadership role of CBS in the news world, and creates profitable new opportunities and value for advertisers, by creating new user experiences for our news audience.
Role & responsibilities:
– Represents the key wireless expert for news and the link and between the LA team (wireless group) and New York (the news group), and builds the bridge between the two groups
– Owns the wireless consumer products group for news, maintaining responsibility for research and definition of product roadmap, development of new products and product enhancements, and profitability of products
– Interfaces with marketing, sales, engineering, partners, and users to develop product business plans and requirements; recommends pricing, promotion, placement, and marketing strategies
– Determines product lifecycles, brings new products to successful launch, and evolves products in response to market demand and acceptance
– Stays abreast of emerging wireless computing technologies; champions and evangelizes mobility as a key market for advertising sales, media distribution, and consumer interactivity
– Collaboratively authors technical requirements and functional specifications with engineering, detailing new products, product enhancements, or product retirements; is an advocate on behalf of end users/personas in the product design process
– Collaborates with partners to implement and manage technical product features; supports ongoing partner relationships, and addresses issues related to product malfunctions
– Develops, manages, and reports metrics for growth of wireless business
– Creates presentations and sells ideas
– Successfully manages multiple projects; comfortable in a highly dynamic environment
– Graphic and media production skills and portfolio desired, but not essential
– Uses a diplomatic approach with internal and external partners and customers; good written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills
– Organize and utilize news assets to be used for additional wireless content
Experience requirements:
– Must be extremely organized; detail-oriented.
– Excellent client management and communication/ interpersonal skills.
– 3-5 years of experience in product management, product marketing, or technology project management with an understanding of consumer research, data mining, product strategy, pricing, and online promotion.
– Must be self-starter, proactive and willing to learn & grow with the business.
– Must be a mobile expert – extremely knowledgeable and on the cutting edge of the newest technologies including online
– News and editorial experience
– Basic understanding of video and television.
– Experience working with wireless carriers
– Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, business writing skills required.
– Must be proficient in MS Office including Project and Visio.
– Product management skills, product development skills, marketing experience/consumer minded
– Ability to work well with executive team.
Education Requirements:
– BA/ BS in Business or related field required
