Just over a year ago, we posted on Intel ProSet 2200BG problems and it looks like there’s still some issues. Earlier this month, Intel released patches for certain Pro/Wireless chipsets that closed a security vulnerability. Now InfoWorld is reporting that those patches are themselves getting patched and then re-released. The issue appears to be memory leak of some type with the patches from three weeks ago; one user reported 600 MB of system and virtual memory in use due to the recent patch.
There are generic driver upgrades available on Intel’s site for various ProSet Wireless adapters, but you may want to watch for a more custom version from your OEM or Windows / Microsoft Update. In either case, check your wireless chipset in your Device Manager to see if you’re even a candidate for the issues and patches.
