IPTV Channels Targeting PIO’s On JumpTV And IndiaTVLive.com

Less than a month after Punjab TV and Balle Balle launched on Jump TV, they’ve signed up four more Indian channels for online broadcast. The new signups include India TV (news) and three channels in Malayalam: Kairali TV (entertainment), People TV (news) and Amrita TV (family entertainment). Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, President and CEO of Jump TV said that these channels have an audience among the 15 million people of Indian origin (PIO) living in countries with broadband penetration. The channels are priced at $9.95 per channel per month, and may become the part of a larger, basket offering from Jump TV.
This follows shortly after Archer Media launched PIO TV online as the first of its offerings for the PIOs at IndiaTVLive.com. Archer CEO Munish Gupta is the Media council co-chair of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin, which has (but, of course) endorsed the PIO TV venture. GOPIO members would be contributing to PIO TV.
IndiaTVLive also has two channels for the Nort East diaspora, DD News, ATN Bangla and 7Star Care, a health-care channel. They’re priced lower than those at JumpTV at $6.99/month and $23.94 for the basket, but I’m not sure if money’s a major criteria. As of today JumpTV and IndiaTVLive seem to be targeting different segments of the Indian diaspora, but they will eventually be competing.
