Overall bidding has been slowing for a while now, although the smaller licenses are still seeing some action. Interestingly, after Verizon cornered four large regional licenses to get a national footprint “the Sprint Nextel Corp./cable joint venture appears to be achieving a national footprint without the benefit of costly regional licenses”.
T-Mobile is still ahead in its intention to get enough spectrum to compete with the three big guys. “T-Mobile USA continues as the auction’s top bidder in terms of dollars, with bids so far totaling nearly $4.2 billion for 130 licenses covering 483 million overlapping pops.”
