Nortel India MD Ravi Chauhan says in an interview with The Economic Times, that he expects Wimax to catch on over the next 24-36 months. This is because there are no zoning restrictions in India (yet) and you can have multiple customers across income segments in a single area. It becomes cost effective. “Wimax or 4G telephony is the next big thing that is going to happen”, he says.
He expects a convergence of voice and data, and adds that Microsoft and Nortel are collaboring to create a multi-media communication system for both PC’s and Laptops. Because hardware is being commoditiesed, services and solutions to pick up.
