Cox Deal To Use TiVo’s DVR Software Starts In 2007

Cox Communications has signed up with TiVo to use its DVR software in the cable operator’s own set-top boxes. The deal, which starts in the first half of 2007, allows Cox Digital Cable subscribers who want TiVo instead of Cox DVR to download the softwae directly to their Cox DVR set-tops.
The deal may be good for Cox subs who like TiVo but the real winner is TiVo, which has been working hard to transition from a hardware business to a service provider and an ad platform. The Cox deal includes distribution of TiVo’s interactive advertising platform. On the cable side, TiVo already has a deal with number-one operator Comcast. More details in the release.
