Sony is in a real bad spot as I see it. Last week, Dell recalled over 4 million notebook batteries made by Sony. Next up on the recall list is Apple due to some batteries that are rotten to the core. If you add the 1.8 million Apple batteries, that gets us close to 6 million Sony-produced batteries affected so far; estimates are up to $250 million dollars in costs to Sony. Interesting trivia question: who makes the batts for Sony laptops?!?
Anyway, all of the batteries affected are Lithium-Ion workhorses; the impacted Apple models are the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 machines. If have either model notebook, you can hit up Apple’s support site for the issue, but ONLY after you remove your battery and plug in that Mac. We don’t want any mobile tech injuries on our watch, ‘k? (Thanks to Mike for sending this in!)
