The CBS Television Stations Digital Media Group has extended its “Always On” digital media initiatie by adding local news, video, traffic and weather information to mobile services, with the services to be available in 16 CBS markets. A soft-launch was in early Spring and seems to be doing quite well. The products will include station-branded video and nonvideo mobile applications which will be sold via carriers as well as each stations local website and by text message, for “$2.99 to $4.99 per month, depending on the carrier and type of phone, for unlimited access to the application and content”.
The video products are available on Sprint Nextel while the nonvideo products have been launched on Verizon Wireless, which is a little odd. CBS plans more carrier roll-outs. Part of CBS’s services come from its deal with Weathernews.
