Qualcomm Seeks Operator Partners For Mobile TV Trials

Indiantelevision.com: Qualcomm, which has a deal with Verizon in the US to launch mobile TV service next year in the US, is seeking partnership with operators in India to do mobile TV trials. Qualcomm is pushing its MediaFLO technology for mobile TV services. MediaFLO allows delivery of huge volumes of high-quality, streaming or clipped, audio and video multimedia to wireless subscribers.
There is a long way to go as for mobile TV in India. If the service has to work, the content on offer has to be compelling, and there has to be at least 20 channels with an operator, says Kanwalinder Singh, Qualcomm President (India and SAARC). It should also be easy for the consumer to switch from one channel to another.
Also the service would need higher bandwidth, so it needs higher spectrum. Otherwise, pictures will be jerky and the consumers can get put off. The key to successful mobile television is to do interactivity with the broadcast.
