India’s TV18 To Launch Venture Fund; Its Division CNN-IBN Files For IPO

From our sister site ContentSutra: India’s TV/media group TV18 Group is flying high these days (me sez it is a good acquisition target if a big media conglomerate wants to buy it…though there are foreign media ownership restrictions, and it will be a large size deal)…anyway, it has started an $11 million venture fund to invest in startups in the media space. The investment vehicle will be called “Media Venture Capital Trust”.
Now, its group company Global Broadcast News Ltd (GBN), which owns the English news channel CNN-IBN and part-owns Hindi channel Channel 7, is going in for an IPO. It has filed with the local agency there…it will raise about $30 million.
Most recently the group acquired a Mumbai-interactive agency UrbanEye Media, as reported by ContentSutra. It had also acquired a 50 per cent stake in the Indian arm of Jobstreet.com. It is also one of the co-investors in Yatra Online.
