Virgin Animation In Bangalore To Focus on Creating IP

Business Standard: Virgin Comics – a New-York-based company floated by spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, film maker Shekhar Kapur and British billionaire Richard Branson – has launched Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation in India. (I am not sure if they are two different companies). The companies will be based in Bangalore. According to Sharad Devarajan, CEO, Virgin Comics, they will focus on creating IP and not become an outsourcing house. They have already developed Indian mythology-related characters and stories like Devi, Snake Women, Sadhu, Ramayan 3392 AD and Seven Brothers.
The comics will be priced at Rs 10 here whereas they are sold in the US for $3 in Europe for 3 euros. After comics, the company plans other forms of youth-related entertainment products like films, television, ancillary print publications, gaming, online and mobile content, Sharad Devarajan said.
