I’m not sure exactly how to term this…Indian telco Reliance Infocomm is offering help to developers to promote the creation of mobile content.
“The idea is to provide platform to the budding application developers. We provide all the necessary tools required to develop an application. They also get the opportunity to test the product on our network,” said Mahesh Prasad, president, Application, Solution and Content group, Reliance Infocomm.”
There are 19,000 registered developers including around 900 small and medium companies. At first I thought Reliance was running a program to get content for itself, but “since the service provider doesn’t own IP, developers have a fair chance to sell their product in the market”. So it appears to be investing in growing the mobile content market in general, which is good…
