Ten percent of the 67 million handsets sold in the US (for a total of $4.4 billion) were mobile music handsets, according to NPD Group. This represents a doubling of the sale of music-enabled devices. Which doesn’t mean that people use the music part of the phone…when cameras in phones became ubiquitous many people didn’t use them, at least initially, then after a while it became quite common. Motorola retained the number one spot in the US with 32% marketshare (up from 29% a year ago) followed by Nokia and LG with 16% each and Samsung with 15%. Sony Ericsson and Kyocera Wireless tied for the fifth spot, each with a 4-percent share of the market.
