Not much to do with digital media, but an interesting development in itself: The New York Times has hired Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency (bought by powerhouse ICM last month) to represent its interests in optioning stories published in the paper for film and TV projects, possibly the first such for a newspaper as a whole.
NY Observer: An independent filmmaker is on the verge of optioning the film rights to Times staff writer Jennifer 8. Lee’s April 2005 article “The Man Date”…Under Newspaper Guild rules, The Times and Lee would split all revenues evenly.
Hope some of the stories from NYT make it into digital media…shorts, online shows etc.
