Nokia and Brazilian e-commerce website iMusica have signed a deal which puts an icon for iMusica Mobile in the handset menu of Nokia’s N91 phones, beginning in September. The system will allow people to download full tracks to their handsets for between
99 cents of real (US$0.45) and 2.99 reais (US$1.35), depending on the artist — there’ll be tracks from a major record label as well as a number of indies. They’ll aslo be able to download up to three copies of the song to their PCs. The songs will be downloaded as 64 Kbits quality, which is intended to make them smaller than 1 Mb — this combined with the lack of any mention of a telco partner indicates that data charges will apply.
