Latest US Spectrum Auction New — Verizon Bids $3.5 Billion

“Verizon Wireless staked a claim to all six of the largest licenses for sale in the advanced wireless services auction, bidding $3.5 billion in round 14 of the auction for 20 megahertz of spectrum covering the entire continental United States.”
That’s a pretty big bid, but I’m confident other companies will be closing the gap and/or outbidding them soon. For example, T-Mobile currently has bids totalling $103 million, and it really needs more spectrum. MetroPCS is in second place with $1.2 billion bid.
Cricket is in third place with $801 million bid, which is just a bit less than a bridging loan it took out earlier this month.
More to come…
