Starting in September, CBS prime-time programs will be on its ad-supported broadband channel Innertube…episodes will be posted the morning following their initial TV broadcast.
The shows available: CSI, CSI:Miami, CSI: NY, Jericho, NCIS, Numb3rs and Survivor, and will have few commercials, similar to what ABC.com is doing with its shows (will have a 10-second pre-roll commercial before they start and three unskippable 15- or 30-second spots throughout.).
Some details: Each episode of the three CSI series, NCIS and Numb3rs will be available for four weeks following the initial TV broadcast. Episodes of Jericho and Survivor will be available for the whole season.
All of these shows are fully owned and produced by CBS, unlike its other hit shows like “Two and a Half Men” and “Without a Trace”, both produced by Warner Brothers, and not part of this deal.
Variety.com: CBS Digital president Larry Kramer said Innertube will likely offer significantly more shows by the end of the season, which could mean series produced by other studios or older programs from CBS’ library…In July, CBS signed a deal with its affiliates that provided a framework for sharing the revenue generated by digital distribution of shows, and gives stations financial incentives to promote network ad-supported video offerings on their sites and direct traffic to CBS.com.
This move follows ABC.com’s decision last season to do the same with its shows.
