With the real head-to-head battle waiting for the telcos to achieve critical mass in video rollout, Cynthia Brumfeld crunches the numbers and cable comes out ahead on the triple play. (That’s video-HSD-phone; adding wireless would be a quad-play.) Cable operators ended 2Q06 with more than 6 million voice telephony customers; the telcos in partnership with DBS had about 2 million video subs.
Brumfeld: “Cable has swiped about three times as much of the telcos’ core customer base as the phone companies have stolen from the cable operator’s traditional video customer count.”
