The Times Of India: Close on the heels of procuring the Indian government’s approval for its plans to set up a back office operations facility in a Special Economic Zone in Andhra Pradesh, Google is said to be contemplating setting up a server farm in India. If they indeed build the farm in the country, then this would be second such facility in Asia and seventh in the world.
According to the report, this is the second attempt by the company to set up a server facility in India. Infrastructure-related problems had forced it to call off an earlier plan in March this year. This went to Taiwan, which hosts the only server farm of Google in Asia.
Server farms hosts websites, stores e-mails, blogs, photos, documents and chat records, and make it available to users when they demand it.
