Verizon is adding PlayLinc, a free multi-player gaming service, in the hopes of luring new FiOS subscribers, according to a report in the WSJ (sub. req.). PlayLinc was developed in part by Super Computer International, the gaming company in which Verizon recently acquired a stake. Instead of the $60 or more it might cost with other gaming companies, Verison FiOS subs won’t pay at all to set up private invitation gaming. Up to 32 users can talk via internet phone through the PlayLinc browser; they can also use AIM. Console-based systems can be used on the free servers.
