SixApart bets that future is MoBlogging

For carriers, phone vendors and for blogging service providers, camera phones are the biggest opportunity to make money. I have said this before, and at the risk of repeating myself, I will say it again: any company that makes it simple and easy for users to upload their photos directly from a phone to their website/weblog, will find itself in the cat bird seat.

Six Apart’s TypePad Mobile has a good shot at it. It is the rebranded (?) version of SplashBlog, a product that came via the Splash Data acqusition back in March 2006. TypePad Mobile works on Palm Treo, Windows Mobile and Symbian Series 60 phones. Though it is not such a large selection, it is still covers a decent number of phones and works well with TypePad.

There are many other moblogging options such as Photobucket, PixPulse, Shozu and even Nokia offers a photoblogging tool with some of its phones such as the Nokia N91 or Nokia N70. Another new company has jumped into the fray, Chicago-based Unified Mobility. UM so far has made a living by mobilizing media companies ‘web sites. UM’s President Keith Gerard told Katie that his company is working on a direct-to-consumer mobile browsing product called Mdog.com that will also enable users to update blogs using their mobile phones.
