Checking In On Google Checkout

Too, too coincidental … first I read Donna Bogatin’s post on the lack of buzz for Google Checkout at the Search Engine Strategies Conference this week, then I see the Official Google post from Wednesday promising a free t-shirt to everyone who spent $20 or more on Google Checkout that day. Bogatin says the service launched in June wasn’t mentioned by Google or anyone else during a panel that might have seemed tailor-made. She didn’t pick up any buzz either.
Of course, that’s no gauge of success but can’t help notice a fair number of Google’s initiatives get more buzz during the rumor period than the reality phase.
